An ideal braking system consists of different components that work together as a full-fledged integrated system with high efficiency to guarantee comfort, high performance, and durability.
Brembo specializes in making high-performance automotive brake systems. Their notable components include brake pads, discs, hub carriers, and calipers.
Brembo brakes are different from brakes on regular cars in a few ways. Brake systems on regular vehicles are engineered for practicality and Brembo for performance and comfort.
Brembo brake systems are made of high-friction material, which helps to enhance braking power. The rotors have holes drilled in to increase the surface area so heat can be easily dispersed. This prevents the brakes from overheating.
Brakes can fail or warp when they overheat. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s still a possibility. For a fast car, this can become a serious safety issue. The design of Brembo brakes prevents this from happening. Considering how fast supercars are, you can imagine what would happen if the brakes on supercars weren’t designed to disperse heat. Disaster!
Brembo is notorious for rigorous testing of its products. It is astounding how thorough they are with testing their kits for safety. They ensure that all parts, components, and kits go through advanced testing before they go to market.
Another unique characteristic of Brembo brakes is the length. They are longer than regular stock brakes meaning more clamping force, giving more braking torque.
Brembo has improved thermal resistance in its brake system. No noise reduced vibration and durability. Stock brakes may not have these qualities, but they serve their purpose.
Brembo brakes are also designed to be light in weight. This reduces the weight of the car, improving the vehicle’s braking ability. The lighter the car, the easier the braking ability.
These two brake systems are built differently for different purposes, so it’s not a thing of “which one is better?” It’s more about the type of car the braking system is being put on and on personal preference.
The main advantage of Brembo is the ability to stop/slow down quickly at high speeds. Stock brakes are made for regular cars which never need to fly at those speeds. Both scenarios are unrealistic unless they end up in a high-speed chase running from the police or on the Formula One Race tracks of Accra.
Most supercars are driven on smooth highways and race tracks; they need to be able to brake quickly and safely. So we can’t put these two against each other.
You can, by all means, upgrade your brake system to a Brembo if you intend to fly past the new Mahama road in Accra. But, it is expensive and may not even be suited to your car. However, if you want to upgrade, you may be able to. We recommend you speak to an experienced mechanic/engineer before you do this.
