If you have been following Supercars.GH for a while, you already know that we only choose the best cars as our Car of The Month. And this January, that honor goes to the Renault Koleos. Stick around until the end to find out just why we chose the Koleos.
If you were on the hunt for a petrol-powered SUV, the Koleos is not the car for you. Renault only offers two diesel powerplants for this family vehicle. The smaller of the two is 1.6 liters in size and outputs 130 horsepower. However, a more powerful, 177-horsepower 2.0-liter diesel is available for those who seek ultimate performance. Being diesel-powered, these engines get great fuel economy as well. With careful driving, this SUV will comfortably return 45 MPG in the city and 49 MPG out on the highway, for a combined rating close to 50 MPG.
When it comes to transmissions, the Koleos comes with the Renault X-TRONIC automatic. Paired with powerful diesel engines, this transmission allows the Koleos to achieve class-leading performance. Not only that but there is a CVT transmission option as well. Sadly, Renault does not offer a manual transmission option with this SUV.
Take a peak inside the Koleos, and you’ll see a center console dominated by a large 8.7-inch touchscreen. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and even has a top-of-the-range satellite navigation system powered by Tom Tom.
The driver is treated to a digital instrument cluster which provides all the necessary information at a glance. Chrome highlights improve the appearance of the interior, and there are soft-touch plastics wherever you touch. Other features of note include dual-zone climate control, heated/chilled cupholders, automatic headlights, keyless entry, and hands-free parking.
Being an SUV of this size, you might expect the Koleos to have third-row seating. However, Renault does not offer this for the Koleos, meaning that it can only accommodate five passengers. However, the lack of a third row allows the Koleos to have one of the largest trunks in its segment. The spacious boot can accommodate 565 liters of cargo, which can further be increased to 1795 liters by folding the seats down.
The Renault Koleos provides one of the most comfortable rides you can find in the family SUV segment. The suspension absorbs most bumps on the road with ease, and the high riding position gives passengers a perfect view of the outside. Furthermore, you’ll be delighted to hear that the cabin does not let in any wind noise.
Being a modern family SUV, it is no wonder that the Koleos comes packed full of the latest safety features. Some of the most noteworthy ones include the easy-park assist, electronic stability program (ESP), blind spot monitoring, hill start assist, and tire pressure monitoring.
Price and Common Problems
If you are interested in picking up a Koleos as your next family car, here are some issues you should keep an eye on. Leaking windshields, engine issues, and transmission problems have all been reported by past owners, so it is better to be vigilant about these issues before spending your hard-earned cash.
In terms of pricing, the MSRP of the Renault Koleos lies between $33,000 to $45,000. We encourage you to check in with your local Renault dealership for the exact pricing. For more exciting SUV content like this, check out our previous articles on Supercars.GH, and also check out our social media.
The smart looks continue at the rear as well. In addition to the exciting rear light design, the Koleos is equipped with rear parking sensors, a power-opening tailgate, and one of the best camera systems that make it one of the most technologically advanced SUVs. A full-length glass roof at the top is another distinctive feature of this French SUV.
The Koleos has the upper hand in its competition in both performance and interior features. Keen to know more? Then, follow along to the next section.
