The 2024 Formula 1 season is slowly unraveling before our very eyes, and this race weekend, it’s time for another trip around the exhilarating Baku street circuit in Azerbaijan. This circuit holds the accolades of being one of the fastest in the calendar, and also coming in fourth in terms of sheer length. With McLaren in a close battle with Red Bull for the constructor’s championship, and Lando Norris mounting a challenge for the Driver’s title, Baku could be a major turning point in the 2024 season. So, what can you expect to see this coming race weekend? Keep reading, ‘cause we are going to tell you all about it!
McLaren’s impressive performance this season has been overshadowed by internal tensions between their two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. While Norris is the current front-runner for the world championship, Piastri’s aggressive driving style and lack of support for his teammates have created a challenging dynamic over the past few races. McLaren’s “papaya rules” policy, has been questioned in light of Piastri’s aggressive maneuvers, but how will it play out over this race weekend? We’ll just have to wait and see!
It wouldn’t surprise anyone when we say Red Bull, the reigning champions for the past couple of years, has faced a significant decline in performance this season. Despite Verstappen’s continued dominance, the team’s struggles have raised questions about their long-term competitiveness through the rest of this season. The departure of Adrian Newey to Aston Martin has added to the uncertainty surrounding the team’s future, and they would surely be hoping for a massive points haul after the disappointment at Monza.
Ferrari, after a difficult start to the season, has shown signs of improvement. But, Leclerc’s victory in Monaco and the team’s strong performance at Monza have boosted their chances in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Having had moderate success in Baku over the past few years, the Scuderia would be hoping for yet another great weekend as we head to Azerbaijan this weekend.
Add Kevin Magnussen recipient of the first race ban in 12 years, and we’ve got an exhilarating race at Baku in our hands. Don’t forget to stay tuned to Supercars.GH if you want our full coverage of the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
