HOW TO GET YOUR DRIVING SCHOOL APPROVED

Driving schools teach people how to drive, about road signs and everything they need to know about their vehicle. They also must have a connection with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority) in order to facilitate your driver’s permit and all procedures that go with it. 

If you want to open a driving school in Ghana, you will need to get approval from the DVLA. To do this, you have to pass the authority’s requirements. The DVLA is the road traffic agency that is in charge of vehicle, driver licensing and driving school licensing.

Here are the requirements that DVLA requests for applicants.

DRIVING SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS IN GHANA

These steps provided by DVLA ensure that the business proposed by the applicant is acceptable and safe for people who want to register to the driving school. 

The requirements are;

• First, applicants will have to visit the DVLA head office in Ghana and ask for an application form before going to the Registrar General’s office for your registration license.

• Provide legal evidence of the business, income tax information, and a bank account.

• Your school is required to have an office and classroom that has a seating capacity of more than 20 participants.

• You’ll need to have at least 2 cars that come with dual pedals and are licensed under the name of the driving school.

• The instructors of the driving school must be DVLA certified and have a category C driving license, they must also have specialized training certifications, such as Specialized Driver Training (SDT), Drivers Skills Development Program (DSDP), Higher Category Training (HCT) and Ddriving Schools for Beginners (DSB).

If you meet these requirements, you’ll be required to pay a fee, submit the completed forms and required documents to the authority‘s accreditation center. These documents will be vetted by the authority, and a notification will be sent to you after verification.

Once  the verification is successful, you can pick up your documents and registration license from the DVLA office. This process takes up to 5 days, and after this, you can open your driving school and allow people to register for driving training.
