FP3 kicked off with sunny and warm conditions in Abu Dhabi, setting the stage for a thrilling final practice of the 2024 Formula 1 season. McLaren, aiming to secure the constructors’ championship, dominated the session with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris claiming the top two spots.
Piastri’s impressive lap of 1:23.433s put him 0.193s ahead of his teammate, showcasing McLaren’s strong pace and strategic prowess. Lewis Hamilton followed closely in third for Mercedes, while Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz rounded out the top five for Red Bull and Ferrari, respectively.
The session was filled with exciting moments and unexpected twists. Kevin Magnussen, in his final weekend with Haas, briefly led the field, highlighting the team’s strong performance. However, as the session progressed, the top teams were once again showing off their dominance.

Qualifying
McLaren was on top of the world as the chequered flag dropped to mark the end of qualifying at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with Lando Norris taking pole position ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri, securing a McLaren front-row lockout.
Carlos Sainz was third for Ferrari, while Nico Hulkenberg grabbed a sensational fourth in his last event for Haas. Max Verstappen had to settle for fifth, ahead of Pierre Gasly and George Russell. Charles Leclerc’s session ended early due to a track limits penalty, relegating him to the back of the grid, while Lewis Hamilton also had a disappointing qualifying in his final race weekend with Mercedes, retiring early after hitting a loose bollard.
