Las Vegas Grand Prix - Race Review
Max Verstappen clinched his fourth World Driver’s Championship in a row this weekend at Las Vegas, but the crowning of a new champ was far from the only thing this exciting race had to offer. Interested? Then, stay with us, as we take you through our review of the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Verstappen, the reigning champion, secured his fourth consecutive title with a measured fifth-place finish. Despite not being on the podium as often as he would have liked, Verstappen’s consistent performance throughout the season proved to be the decisive factor. His ability to maintain his composure and execute under pressure was evident as he kept his main rival, Lando Norris, at bay one more time.
While Verstappen was undoubtedly the star of the show, the Mercedes team also had a night to remember. George Russell, starting from pole position, delivered a masterclass in performance, expertly managing the challenging conditions to secure his second victory of the season. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, showcased his brilliance, recovering from P10 after a disappointing qualifying session to finish second and claim a valuable podium position for the team.
The Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc rounded out P3 and P4, although their race was not without its challenges. Leclerc, who started second, faced early tire issues that hampered his progress. Despite this, he managed to recover and finish in fourth place. Sainz, on the other hand, had a more consistent race, finishing third and contributing to Ferrari’s strong performance in the Constructor’s Championship.
The midfield battle was equally intense, with teams like RB, Alpine, and Haas fighting for valuable points. Nico Hulkenberg put in a strong performance for Haas, finishing eighth and gaining crucial points for the team in the Constructors’ Championship.
The race also saw a few retirements, including Pierre Gasly’s early exit due to technical issues and Alex Albon’s late retirement in his Williams. Both these retirements highlighted the demanding nature of the Las Vegas circuit and the importance of reliability in the pinnacle of motorsport.
