One of the key things to remember about our November Car of the Month – the Mercedes E-Class – is that it is set to be one of the last vehicles from the German manufacturer to come with an internal combustion engine.  As Mercedes prepares to transition to an all-electric future, the E-Class stands as a testament to the brand’s rich heritage of creating luxurious, performance-oriented automobiles. The current lineup offers a diverse range of powertrains, which is sure to appeal to all sorts of drivers with different driving preferences and needs.

If you are seeking a balance of efficiency and performance, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) E300e is an excellent choice. With a combined power output of 328bhp, it delivers brisk acceleration, capable of sprinting from 0 to 62mph in just 6.5 seconds, making it the most potent E-Class currently available that is not an AMG, matching the performance levels of a hot hatch.

The E300e also has an impressive electric-only range of up to 72 miles (though the real-world range is closer to 40-45 miles) making it ideal for daily commutes and shorter journeys as well. In pure electric mode, the E300e offers smooth and quiet acceleration, capable of reaching motorway speeds without the need for the petrol engine at all. When additional power is required, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine seamlessly kicks in, providing a refined and effortless driving experience.
