FP1 was off with a blast, with Lando Norris leading the way for McLaren, closely followed by Mercedes’ George Russell and the impressive Haas substitute, Ollie Bearman. The Sprint format added an extra layer of intensity, making every minute of the single practice session crucial. The session was filled with drama, from spins and close calls to blistering lap times. Max Verstappen, despite a grid penalty looming, showed early pace, while Lewis Hamilton battled with Mercedes’ bumpy ride and a few close encounters.

Norris ultimately secured the top spot of the timing sheets with a stunning lap on soft tires, edging out Russell and the ever-impressive Bearman. McLaren’s strong showing continued with Piastri in fourth, while Albon led the way for Williams.

Sprint Qualifying

Heading into the much-awaited Sprint Qualifying, it was the rapid McLaren of Oscar Piastri who stole the show at Interlagos! The young Aussie topped the timesheet in SQ1, sending a shockwave through the grid. Rain loomed, but Piastri wasn’t fazed, putting his car on P1 despite the tricky conditions.

Championship leader Verstappen looked to be back in his element, but a power unit penalty loomed large for Sunday’s race. Meanwhile, veteran drivers like Alonso and Hamilton found themselves eliminated early, failing to make the cut for SQ2.

The stage was set for a thrilling Q3 showdown. Piastri and Norris led the charge, but Ferrari’s Leclerc wasn’t giving up without a fight. In a nail-biting finish, Piastri pulled off a miracle, edging out his teammate Norris by a mere three-hundredths of a second to claim a sensational Sprint Qualifying pole! The McLaren duo locked out the front row, leaving the likes of Verstappen and Leclerc to battle from behind.
