BMW Club Ghana met with Ibrahim Mahama on 13 August 2022 in an interactive session at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The Breakfast meeting gave the engineer a platform to share his journey in the world of business with participants.
BMW Club Ghana is a community for BMW lovers and drivers, and the Club aims to foster a close relationship within the community and provide expert technical advice and other support to its members and society at large.

A Passion for Automobiles
Ibrahim Mahama’s appearance was the perfect stroke for the BMW Club. In addition to being a prolific businessman, he has a strong attachment to cars and machinery. The engineer recollected how he used to put his mother’s BMW through its laps during his younger days. While in the UK, Mahama was noted for driving for days at a time due to his love for cars.
Ibrahim Mahama is a punctual, passionate, and tenacious man. The speakers encouraged the youth to seek out a path and pursue it with passion. While there would be challenges in business, it was important to be resilient rather than jumping from one venture to another as the grass only seems greener on the other side. It was the only way to understand the inherent risks, thereby arming you with tools to draft and implement successful plans.
Importance of Partnerships
Ibrahim Mahama and other speakers advised members to seek out and nurture complementary partnerships. Mahama noted he was a risk-taker while his partner was risk-averse.
The charismatic business mogul charged participants to be cautious about involving family and friends in their businesses but advised members to do so if only they are capable and dedicated partners. He gave the example of his father who’d given two close friends 30% each in his business; those friends ended up kicking his father out of the business.
Mahama advised the youth to pick up valuable skills rather than relying on nonexistent government jobs or thinking there are more lucrative job opportunities in other countries. This would make them stand out in a competitive job market.
Mahama espoused the need to prioritise skill over formal education as the current society places a focus on education. He charged industry leaders to give capable youth a chance. He also pleaded with policymakers to provide support to businesses so they could absorb dedicated youth into sectors of the economy.
The Engineer also called on BMW Club Ghana to organise such Speaker Series at other educational institutions. He believed such intimate interactions would bode well for the future.
