2023 Baharain Grand Prix - FP1 & FP2

The dawn of a new year brings with it a brand new installment of the Formula 1 World Championship. With new cars, new liveries, and some new teammate pairings, 2023 is lining up to be one of the most exciting seasons in the championship’s prestigious history.

As always, the first round of the championship comes our way from the Bahrain International Circuit in Bahrain. Like previous years, our team at Supercars.GH is dedicated to bringing you comprehensive coverage throughout the season. So, join us as we take you on a tour of the first FP1 and FP2 sessions of the year.

Last year’s World Constructors Champions – Red Bull started the year with a bang by occupying 2 of the top 3 positions of the timing sheets of free practice 1. The fastest time came at the capable hands of Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver, competing in his 13th Formula 1 season, completed a blazing lap around the Bahrain circuit in just 1:32.758, which was nearly 0.5 seconds faster than his teammate, the reigning World Drivers Champion – Max Verstappen.

However, Fernando Alonso was the talk of the town, with an impressive lap that put him second on the leaderboard. The Aston Martin AMR23 continues to impress the paddock and seems to be a possible threat to the established top runners Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes.

With three new rookies on the grid, there are bound to be some incidents at the beginning of the season. And, as you might have guessed, that is what happened. Both Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargent faced some hiccups. Both youngsters managed to keep their million-dollar race cars from getting damaged.

The biggest spin of the session came at the hands of Carlos Sainz. This goes to show the unpredictable nature of this sport.

  1. Sergio Perez 1:32.758
  2. Fernando Alonso 1:33.196
  3. Max Verstappen 1:33.375

Fernando Alonso proved the saying “Age is just a number” by recording the fastest time in the second practice session of the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix. The Aston Martin once again proved itself to be a worthy challenger, with even the injured Lance Stroll managing to get inside the top 10

Nico Hulkenberg returns to F1 after a three-year absence and has something to be proud of with his P5 finish. On the other side of the garage, Ferrari seems to have some work to do, withLecrec finishing P4 and Sainz a disappointing 14th.
