Heading into the final Grand Prix of the season, there are many questions still looming around the heads of Formula 1 fans worldwide. Who will walk out Sunday as the runner-up in the driver’s championship? Will Mercedes overtake Ferrari in the constructors’ championship? Will Lewis Hamilton have a winless season for the first time in his career? Well, we’ll have to wait until Sunday for those answers. Qualifying holds the key to any Grand Prix, so today we’ll take a look at the final practice and qualifying sessions of the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Red Bull had the bragging rights in FP3, with Sergio Perez leading the 2022 World Champion Max Verstappen. The Mexican driver has a big fight coming his way this Sunday, as he starts the race on equal points with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
The Session saw a red flag being brought out due to Pierre Gasly suffering a tire failure. Lewis Hamilton found himself in a bit of a pickle, as he was spotted passing two cars under the said red flag. The seven-time World Champion was lucky to get away from the incident without a penalty, and he put in the third fastest time of the session for good measure.
The always impressive Lando Norris came in at P5, in front of both Ferraris. Alex Albon also looked impressive in his Williams FW44, recording the tenth-fastest time of the session.
Max Verstappen reigned at the top as the chequered flag fell at the end of the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix qualifying session. The Dutchman claimed pole position last year as well, on his way to a championship-deciding victory. He was followed closely by Sergio Perez, with his P2 rival on his tail at third.
With both Leclerc and Perez tied at 290 points each, the qualifying session will decide who holds the upper hand going into the final race of the season. Join us tomorrow for the latest updates, and don’t forget to check out our previous F1 coverage.
