2022 Brazilian Grand Prix – FP2 & Sprint Race

Day 2 of the 2022 Brazillian Grand Prix weekend played host to the season’s third and final sprint race. With an unlikely pole sitter leading the way, who fared better in the 24-lap dash to the finish line? Stay with Supercars.GH until the end of this article to find out.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon recorded the fastest lap of the final practice session, as it took him only 1.14:604 to complete a lap around the Interlagos circuit. His teammate, two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso was three places behind at P4. The French team seems to be on the pace, and would surely be hoping for a great result this weekend in order to wrap up P4 in the Constrictor’s Championship.

Speaking of the Constructor’s Championship, over on the current championship holders Red Bull, Perez held the bragging rights over his teammate. It was also an eventful event at the Williams garage, with Formula 2 driver Logan Sargent taking the wheel to familiarize himself with the car he will hopefully drive next season.

Sprint Race

In one of the most thrilling sprint races we have seen in F1 so far, George Russell conquered Max Verstappen to claim victory at Interlagos. He was closely followed by the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, who will line up seventh tomorrow due to taking in a new engine. The 2022 World Champion, Max Verstappen, had to settle for P4.

The sprint race was full of close battles, including ones between teammates. The first of which took place between the two Alpines, with Fernando Alonso getting his front wing broken and also being slapped on top with a five-second time penalty.

The Aston Martin pair also had a close call, with Lance Stroll nearly coming together with Sebastian Vettel, much like he did with Alonso a few races ago in the USA. Lewis Hamilton also charged his way to the front. Kevin Magnussen’s pole position did not go to waste, as he held his own to claim P8 and a championship point for his heroics. Mich Schumacher in the other Haas had a great day too, as he finished in P12 despite starting from the back of the grid. Alex Albon was not so lucky. The Thai driver retired from the race, meaning he will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix in last place.
