The downpour soaked the race track, bringing the first half of the 60-minute session to a standstill.<\/p>\n<p>However, after the rain ceased, the marshals did a brilliant job sweeping the circuit to get the F1 cars back out. Charles Leclerc made the most out of it, as he recorded the quickest time of the session with a 1:57.782. He and his teammate were split by the flying Red Bull of the reigning World Champion, Max Verstappen.<\/p>\n<p>It was a less than stellar evening for the Mercedes duo, as they could not carry forward the momentum for yesterday. A 2:01.101saw George Russell P9. The Monegasque drive put in a blistering fast lap just 0.022 seconds ahead of Sergio Perez. This earned him his second consecutive pole position in Marina Bay.<\/p>\n<p>The qualifying session came with a few twists and turns, as drivers from Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, and even Alpine seemed to be in contention for the top starting position. Esteban Ocon and George Russell were outcasts in this situation. Max Verstappen was on what seemed to be an all-conquering lap, up until the moment he was called into the pits by his teammates.
