The 2024 Formula 1 season has been a rollercoaster ride so far, but with the United States Grand Prix still 1 week away, we here at Supercars.com.GH thought of looking back on the action so far. Join us as we take you on a ride as we rank the Top 5 Most Impressive Drivers of the Season so far.
#5 - Lewis Hamilton
After a sluggish start to the 2024 season, whispers began circling around Lewis Hamiltonfading away to the sunset at the end of the season. However, the veteran driver silenced those doubts with the announcement of a shock move to Ferrari for 2025 and a series of brilliant performances towards the end of the first half of the season. His Silverstone victory, a masterclass in calculated driving rather than mere blind luck, proved he still had the champion’s touch. Hamilton returned to the top step on the podium in Belgium, showcasing his ability to adapt to different track conditions. With Mercedes finally providing a car that seems to suit his driving style, the question remains: can Hamilton maintain this resurgent form as we head to the Circuit of the Americas?
#4 - Charles Leclerc
The Monagasque driver’s 2024 season has been a tale of two halves. Early on, he emerged as the shining beacon of hope for the Scuderia, securing a dreamy yet dominant victory in his home race around the streets of Monaco. However, Ferrari’s struggles with car development since Spain have seen Leclerc’s results plummet. Despite this, he managed to secure another victory at Monza, and his consistency in the first half deserves major recognition. He finished within the top four for the opening seven races, a showcase of his raw talent and racecraft. While Leclerc must undoubtedly be frustrated by Ferrari’s lack of competitiveness on some tracks, the consistent performances throughout the early stages solidify his position at number 4 on our list.
#3 - Oscar Piastri
The rookie sensation of last year, Oscar Piastri has mirrored the meteoric rise of his team – McLaren – this season. Starting the season with flashes of brilliance, Piastri has steadily honed his skills and emerged as a genuine threat for race wins. His maiden win, while controversial – was a well-deserved reward for his pursuit of excellence, and his second win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was nothing short of brilliant. The young Australian looks poised to challenge the royalty in F1 for years to come, and with McLaren proving to be a competitive team once again, we can expect to see even more podium finishes and even victories from Piastri in the remaining rounds.
#2 - Lando Norris
Lando Norris’ season began with a whimper rather than a bang, as early races saw him struggle to find consistency, often hovering around the midfield. However, a turning point emerged in the Chinese Grand Prix, and Norris began a remarkable run of form. From China to Spain, he was a consistent presence at the front of the pack, showcasing his ability to adapt and extract the most out of the McLaren. This culminated in a dominant victory in Miami, a moment that cemented his status as a future world champion contender. Norris’ season hasn’t been without its hiccups – a few race-compromising mistakes stand out – but his undeniable talent and exceptional performances including two more victories have made him a real threat for the reigning World Champion.
#1 - Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen remains the dominant force in F1 as we head into the US Grand Prix, despite facing a tougher challenge from Lando Norris in 2024 compared to his runaway championship victory in 2023. Ignoring his unfortunate mechanical DNF in Australia, Verstappen started the season on fire, posting a string of stellar performances that across the first few races. This early dominance propelled him to the top of the championship standings where he still remains. However, the narrative shifted as Red Bull struggled to match the pace of McLaren throughout the mid-season. Despite this, Verstappen hasn’t put a foot wrong, yielding the most of what the car has to offer. With the championship battle tightening up and both Norris and Piastri breathing down his neck, Verstappen will undoubtedly be looking to rediscover his early-season dominance at the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
